Troy, Michigan -– February 9, 2007—Grid4 Communications, was cited by Troy Mayor, Louise Schilling, during her 4TH Troy State of the City address. Mayor Schilling stated that Troy needs a vision and visionaries and recognized Grid4 Communications as “one of those businesses that are looking toward the future.”
Mayor Schilling reported that Grid4 Communications –a rapidly growing company in the telecommunications industry and a Michigan employer– will more than double its staff during the next five years, adding 33 new direct employees and creating another 15 indirect jobs for Troy. The Grid4 expansion is expected to generate more than $13 million in personal income for Michigan workers through 2014.
“The State of Michigan issues only 25 MEGA grants per year and we were very fortunate to receive two of the 25 and recruit two tech companies to Troy in 2006, GRID4 and Lender Live. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, a partnership between the state and local communities, promotes smart economic growth by developing strategies and providing services to create and retain good jobs and a high quality of life.
Troy businesses have seen their future in our city and have invested millions to expand or build a new facility giving employment, opportunity, and innovation their frontier here in Troy.”
–Troy Mayor Louise Schilling
“I sincerely appreciate the kind remarks offered by Mayor Shilling at the State of the City Address. Michigan was among three other states considered for our network and facility expansion. Troy was the compelling factor in our decision to expand here in Michigan. Troy is one of the many economic and cultural jewels in Southeastern Michigan,” said Chris Hopkins, President/CEO, Grid4 Communications.
Troy, whose motto is, “The City of Tomorrow, Today” has become a growth incubator and home to Grid4 Communications and many other advanced technology companies. Troy is also home to Automation Alley, an eight-county consortium of advanced technology companies. Grid4 is a Foundation member Automation Alley, Exclusive members of Troy Chamber of Commerce and Internet-Troy, the Troy Chamber of Commerce's Internet committee.
As part of their expansion, Grid4 will also add 30,000 square feet to their existing Troy facility. The added space will include a State-of-the-Art Data and Technology Center to support new products and services for Michigan businesses and residents. The re-tooling of the building and installation of the Data Center will be completed later this year.
Mayor Schilling talked about the general economic conditions in southeast Michigan, saying, “Troy is at a crossroads. As the auto sector falls away, the City is increasingly pressured to reinvent itself. It needs a direction that is both resilient yet flexible.” She went on to discuss how Grid4, and other technology companies like it, are helping to diversify and transform the economy of Troy. “The City of Troy is always looking forward,” said Schilling. And because of that visionary attitude there are a lot of exciting things about to happen that will ensure Troy makes it through these tough economic times.”
